Appeals Over Civil Suits

Dismissal by a magistrate of his suit for damages arising from an accident led Thomas Austin Shears, a joiner, to appeal before Mr Justice Macarthur in the Supreme Court yesterday against the magistrate’s decision. Shears, the rider of a power-cycle, was involved in a collision with a motorist Trevor Finlay, a butcher, in Cranford street, on October 22 last and sued the latter for damages. Finlay yesterday opposed Shears’s appeal. His Honour reserved decision. Mr R. G. Blunt appeared for Shears, and Mr G. F. Rea for Finlay. Appeal Dismissed An appeal by A. R. Mackay, Ltd. (Mr A. R. Cottreil), against a magistrate's decision in favour of Gerald Freeman Rhodes (Mr B. A. Barter), in a suit over the purchase price of a second-hand truck, was dismissed.
