The New York Dow Jonu share price index reached an all-time record peak in stock market trading on Wednesday. The index figure, for an average from 30 industrial stocks, rose by 12.30 points to 981.62. On December 31, the biggest year in American stock market history reached a climax with the industrial average at 969.26, after very brisk closing trading. Then, on Tuesday this week, the record was lifted slightly to 969.32. Several leading United States stockbrokers had predicted a peak possibly as high as 1000 points by the year's end, but results fell a little short of their mark. Now, in the New Year which many American economists say should stay at the present boom level—or even improve —the stockbrokers’ forecasts seem likely to be justified.
