BETTER TRADING IN LONDON

With year-end influences slipping away business on the London stock market at midweek was returning to normal and prices rose to their highest peak since December 13. Most business was being done in small amounts of stock. Coppers, for the third day running, and golds for the second, sold freely, but were beginning to lose some firmness. i Investors were showing .more interest in gilt-edged shares than they had for some :time and prices moved ahead over quite a wide area, bolstered by the flrm £.
