BIRTHRATE DECREASE

Biologist’s Prediction

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) BERKELEY (California),

December 27.

Mankind would have to learn to get along with fewer children, a leading American biologist, Dr. J. Dubos, said today. Dr. Dubos. of Rockefeller University in New York, participated in a symposium on birth control for the advancement of science. The symposium opened its six-day session at Berkeley today.

Dr. Dubos said stabilisation of world population was inevitable. This, together with an ever-increasing life span, would mean far fewer children.

As a result, he said, one of the biggest problems would be to find substitute values for those that people now found in their children.
