Helicopter Control

A helicopter and closed-cir-cuit television will be used to direct traffic at the official opening of the Auckland international airport on January 29. With the aid of 100 traffic officers, it is hoped to cut the time of travel from Mangere bridge to the airport to 20 minutes. An officer will be a passenger in the helicopter and will report the flow on the roads to the traffic control headquarters at the airport, ' where Mr J. A. Arthur, the district traffic superintendent, will be in charge. A television camera will provide control headquarters with a picture of the stretch of road outside the airport.
