FLOWN TO CHCH.

Seaman Hurt In Antarctic

A United States Navy Hercules aircraft made a mercyflight from McMurdo Sound to Christchurch Airport last evening with an injured crew member of the United States Navy ice-breaker Burton Island.

The man is James Lindsey, who had suffered an eye injury. The aircraft left McMurdo Sound at 4 p.m. yesterday, and reached Christchurch at 12.30 a.m. Weather at McMurdo Sound was good, with scattered cloud, a light wind, and a temperature of 27 degrees.

At Christchurch Airport the aircraft was met by an ambulance which took the injured man to the Christchurch Hospital. The Burton Island is one of the three ice-breakers keeping the channel open for shipping at McMurdo Sound.
