IFitJidrawal By Publisher (Spacial Crtpitt. N.S.P.A.) LONDON, Dec. 20. A £lOOO EnglisbAmericsn literary award sponsored by a British publisher, Mr Peter Owen, is to bo withdrawn, says the “Daily Express.” More than 1000 novela were submitted to tbs Judges, but there was not one which merited the prise.
It la the fourth literary prise to be withdrawn in Britain this year. Ono was worth £3OOO.
“People often talk of the good books that cannot find apUbllsber,” says Mr Owen. "The fact is there just are not enough good books to go round. Thera just is not the talent Many of the entries were practically illiterate" The cancellation of the competition will save wort for the judges who Included an author, Alan Sillitoe, film producer, Carl Foreman, and theatre director, Peter Hall. No manuscript was eyen passed to them.
