M- N. E. Kirk, M.P., was congratulated, at last night’s meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council on his election as leader of-the Labour Party. Mr Kirk was Mayor of Kaiapoi from 1954 to 1957. Mr G. W. Browne, accountant to the Christchurch Transport Board, who will retire on January 31 after 40] years’ service, was bidden farewell by board members at their last meeting of the year yesterday. Mr Browne will be succeeded by Mr D. Grundy, who has been assistant accountant for some years. Chief Inspectors C. O. Taylor (Auckland) and K J. Tropltt (Timaru) will be the first policemen to attend an Air Force course.
