£245 House Burglary
Two diamond rings, worth £95 and £5O, and cash and a cheque totalling more than £lOO, were stolen from a flat in Cashel street that was burgled in daylight yesterday. In two other daylight burglaries, £lB was stolen from a house in Baynes street and £2 10s from a house in Nicholls road. Five hundred cigarettes were stolen from the Highway Snack Bar, Wakefield street, Sumner, and 700 cigarettes from Fame’s Fish Shop, Marriner street, on Thursday night.
Combined Christmas Service.—A combined Christmas family service will be held by churches in the Mairehau area on Sunday, December 19. Arranged by St Phillip’s (Methodist), St. Aidan’s (Presbyterian). and St. George’s (Anglican), the service will be held in the Mairehau High School hail. It will include singing by the St Phillip’s children’s choir, and the Berwick Street Presbyterian choir.
Miner Fire—A fire which started in a transformer in the Woolworths, Ltd., supermarket in Harewood road about 1.36 p.m. yesterday caused no damage to the building.
