December 18 PUBLIC HOUSE BILL—Sir, 1 have noticed of late considerable controversy as to the requirements of a now pablichouae bill; U only to put down many serious evils which now exist The first of which, Sunday trading, Is the very worst Drinking on that day is bad enough, but I hear from several sources that gaming of all kinds is freely entered Into oo Sunday afternoon and evening, and this in socalted hotels with such boasted accommodation (the proprietors of which spook with pride of taking more money on that day than
the whole week); and should proof be required of thia breach of Clause No. 30 it shall bo forthcoming. The second, that attention should be paid, say by appointment of proper authority, that maddening poison be not sold under different names in place of pure imported wines and spirits. And. thirdly, that licensed houses be punctually closed at eleven o'clock, and attention paid that no person of known loose character be closeted: and. in fact, that no excuses of any kind be permitted. .. .
