The Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough), who will retire in January, will be bidden farewell by the legal profession this morning when he takes his place on the Bench in the Supreme Court at Wellington for the last time. He was appointed Chief Justice in 1953 after the death of Sir Humphrey O’Leary.— (PA.) Mr Jean Dufios has been appointed French Ambassador to New Zealand in succession to Mr Lucien Felix.— (PA.) Mr E. G. Brown, the Governor of California, yesterday morning visited the United States Navy Antarctic support force base at Christchurch airport. Mr Brown and his party heard a briefing on American operations in the Antarctic by the commander of the support force (RearAdmiral F. E. Bakutis). Mr BroWn left later by air for Rotorua. Superintendent W. A. McGuire, chief controller of the Search and Rescue Organisation, will retire from the Police Force today.—(PA)
