SHEARING TALLY

591 In Day By Two-Man Team

Probably the highest shearing tally recorded in the North Canterbury district surounding Rangiora was achieved by a two-man team! of Messrs G. K. Inch and B. j E. (Dick) Reid. Their combined tally was 591 sheep for a normal eight-hour day. Mr Inch put through 305 sheep and Mr Reid 286. The sheep were fine-woolled Romneys carrying a heavy fleece on the property of Mr J. S Wolff, Horrelville. The tally of 305 by Mr Inch narrowly beats the previous best figures achieved by these shearers last season. Then Mr Inch put through 300 sheep in an eight-hour working day, and a few days later in the same week, Mr Reid topped this with a total of 303. Although members of the same shearing gang, they were not working together when they recorded their 300-a-day tallies last season.
