New Councillor From Waimairi County Tie
Mr M. P. Hobby has won the Papanui riding seat on the Waimari County Council from the sitting member, Mr W. T. Rice, with whom he tied with 557 votes on election night The official count, completed yesterday by the Returning Officer (Mr.K. Maclachlan), gave Mr Hobby 593 votes and 564 to Mr Rice. The official count did not alter the provisional results in the other eight ridings, and confirmed the election of four more new councilors, Messrs R. C. Neville. J. DAshby, D. B. Rich and F. S. Blogg. One candidate, Mr A. W. Johns, lost his £3 deposit.
Mr Madachlan said that the unusually large total of 1200 special votes had to be counted. ■ - ■ ’ Details of the final count were:—
