£90.490 In Golden Kiwi Grants

WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. Grants of £90,490 from Golden Kiwi lottery profits were announced today by the chairman of the Recreation and Youth Activities Distribution Committee, Sir William Stevenson. Recently the committee considered 163 applications. Thirteen grants totalling £3660 were approved for immediate payment and 55 amounting to £42,930 will be paid when work on ‘he projects concerned is completed. The committee also approved in principle a subsidy of £lB,OOO to the Boystown Police and Citizens’ Club, Auckland, towards the erection of a building to house the club.
Ten applicants were granted variations to existing conditions.
Fifteen applications were declined because they were not within the scope for
which grants are made, or de-
ferred for further investigation. Conditional grants confirmed were:— Upper Waitohi Domain Board, Temuka, Community hall, £1000: Canterbury branch, Boy Scouts’ Association, purchase of permanent camp site and buildings at Kaiapoi, £2000; Temuka Rugby Football Club Inc., building a new clubroom and gymnasium, £750; Sefton Pub-
lic Hall Society Inc., new hall, £2500; Zingari Rugby Football Club, Timaru, erecting clubrooms with gymnasium facilities, £1250. Conditional grants approved were:— Motueka United Rugby Football Club, clubrooms, £500; Paparua County Council, additional subsidy towards public swimming pool at Sockburn, £3000; Waimangaroa Domain Board, Westport, completion of new pavilion, £500; Waimate Jaycees, soundshell at Victoria Park, £500; Christchurch City Council, additional subsidy towards swimming pool £8150; Rangiora Borough Council, additional subsidy towards swimming pool, £3OOO.
