CHANNEL TUNNEL
Early Finish To Tests (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, September 2. Sea-bed tests to find a route for a tunnel under the English Channel between France and England will be completed this month or early October, says the “Daily Telegraph.” Borings began a year ago and form the major part of the cost of the £1,250,000 pilot survey. This was organised by the Channel Tunnel Study Group at the invitation of the French and British Governments. The study group backers include channel tunnel companies in Britain and France, the Suez Canal Company, and Technical Studies of America. It claims to have sufficient financial support to build the tunnel if the two Governments do not provide money The scheme will probably cost £lOO million.
