Avondale Golfer’s 2nd Open Title

Winner of the Avondale Golf Club’s mixed open tournament a week ago, W. R. Cant, yesterday also won the open tournament title. Playing on his home course, Cant headed a strong field of 104 with a 36-hole score of 146.

The Harewood player, D. R. Hope, was second, a stroke away. Of the seven strokes he dropped in the two rounds, four were on the last two holes when the pressure was on. D. J. Gaudin tied with Hope when he dropped a shot on the last hole. Cant had four birdies in his morning round of 71, which included a seven on the par-5 sixth hole. In his afternoon round, he managed only one birdie, but with steady play over the last half held off the challenge of some leading golfers. R. S. Peate (Harewood), returning to tournament golf after a spell, was one under par with four to play but slumped badly to six over, taking a seven on the eighteenth.

J. R. Broadhurst, the recent winner of the Harewood tournament, played well from tee to green but was let down by his putting. Results;
