WELLINGTON, August 2». The Otago player. B. A. Foster, seeded fourth for the national championships, had two notable wins in the inter-island table tennis match at Wellington on Saturday night. Foster beat the national champion, A. R. Tomlinson, 21-17, 21-12, and the former champion. M. L. Dunn, 11-21, 21-16, 21-10 Results (North island names first) were:—
Men’s Singles.—G. A. J. Frew beat B. A. Shewan, 21-19, 21-13: G. V. Wilkinson beat W. T. Scott, 21-8, 21-15; M. L. Dunn beat J. Armstrong. 21-13, 21-18; A. R. Tomlinson lost to B. A. Foster. 17-21, 12-21; Wilkinson beat Shewan, 21-8, 21-18; Frew beat Scott, 21-17, 22-20; Tomlinson beat Armstrong. 18-21, 21-14, 21-13; Dunn lost to Foster, 21-11, 16-21, 10-21.
Men’s Doubles.—Dunn and Frew beat Scott and Shewan. 21-12, 21-9; Tomlinson and Wilkinson beat Foster and Armstrong, 21-19, 21-23, 23-21; Tomlinson and Wilkinson beat Scott and Shewan, 21-11, 21-10; Dunn and Frew beat Armstrong and Foster, 21-10, 21-11. Women's Singles.—Mrs N. Traill beat Mrs M. J. Shadbolt 21-17, 21-14; Miss J. E. Brown beat Miss V. E. Brauman, 21-8, 21-12; Miss N. J. Attwood beat Mrs T. May, 21-17, 21-14; Miss C. E. Johnson lost to Mrs P. M. Purdon, 23-21, 11-21, 21-23; Miss Brown beat Mrs Shadbolt, 21-14, 21-19; Mrs Traill beat Miss Brauman, 16-21, 21-19, 21-18; Miss Johnson lost to Mrs May, 19-21, 17-21; Miss Attwood beat Mrs Purdon, 21-9, 21-11.
