Abracadabra Goes North
"The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN.
D. G. O’Neill, the Wingatui trainer, was the recipient of complimentary remarks when Abracadabra arrived at his new home, the Kempton Park Stud, Putaruru, Waikato. The three-year-old grey gelding by Magic Carpet was purchased from his breeder, Mr and Mrs D. Cassells, of Bushey Park (Palmerston) by Mr D. H. Mackenzie. Abracadabra was sent to O’Neill’s stable to be broken in and educated before going north and Mr Mackenzie was more than satisfied with the gelding when he arrived.
Abracadabra is the first of the produce of the Kurdistan mare Yasmin, a speedy galloper, which had a short but successful racing career. Yasmin is a granddaughter of the Gustavo mare Ascoli, whose progeny include the Royal Auckland Cup winner, Coaltown, and the promising Bellborough gelding Belshazzar.
Yasmin’s dam, Rascoli, was by Ruthless, the sire of Coaltown.
Mr J. Aspinail, Terrace Farm, Palmerston, recently sold Russian Duchess to Mr E. G. O. Rutherford, “Lochiel,” Hanmer Springs. Foaled in 1958, Russian Duchess is by Moorcock from Russian Lady, by Passaform. Mr W. H. Jolly, of Tarras, president of the Cromwell Jockey Club, sold a two-year-old by Magic Carpet from the Kurdistan mare, Tarras, to Mr J. H. Grigg, of Longbeach. This grey gelding is the first foal of his dam.
