ATTEMPTED RAPE
Nine Months’ Gaol Nine months’ imprisonment to be followed by one year on probation was imposed on Ronald George McDougall, aged 26, an airman (Mr J. G. Leggat) by Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court yesterday on a charge of attempted rape. He had previously been found guilty by a jury of the offence. Mr Leggat submitted that McDougall came before the Court with an otherwise clear record. The conduct of half an hour had put his future in jeonardy. His Honour said the offence was a disgraceful one and normally called for a substantial period of punishment. However, having regard to his background, and life so far he was prepared to accept Mr Leggat’s submission that the offence was out of character.
