Gaoled For Threat
James Roderick Reid, aged 20. a painter and paperhanger (Mr I. C. J. Polson) was sent to prison for six months by Mr Justice Wilson in the Supreme Court yesterday on a charge of threatening to cause grievous bodily harm. He had previously been found guilty of the offence by a jury. Mr Polson submitted that Reid's conduct had essentially been an act of bravado. The threat would not have been regarded so seriously had it not been carried out in the presence of a lot of youths at a wild party. His behaviour had been conditioned to a large extent by his unstable home background. His Honour said Reid was to be placed on probation at the end of his term of imprisonment. “It is time you grew up. Your behaviour up to now has been that of a stupid, arrogant child.”
