More Shipped This Year

Many more sacks of potatoes have been shipped from Lyttelton this season than at the same time last year. To the end of July, 213,322 sacks had been consigned from Lyttelton to North Island ports and overseas destinations. At the same date last year only 61,993 sacks had been sent—a difference of 151,329 sacks. Overseas shipments this year have accounted for 84,510 sacks. A year ago only 11,275 sacks had been consigned overseas. During July 74,068 sacks were shipped through Ljltelton, 10,563 going overseas, compared with 33,373 last year, 3516 of them for overseas ports. Auckland has received 80,684 sacks this year, compared with 24,841 at the end of July last year, Wellington has received 14,273 (4285 in 1964), Napier-Gisborne, 24,886 (17,236), and the west coast of the North Island, 8969 (4856).
