Squeeze The Ball

T. P. Bedford, the No. 8 forward touring New Zealand with the 1965 Springboks, is taking a leaf out of the American golfer Ben Hogan’s book. In the second match of the tour, against Wellington, Bedford suffered a broken bone in. his right hand and only had the plaster cast removed in Wellington last week. To strengthen his hand, Bedford has bought a small rubber ball and squeezes it at every opportunity. After he was injured in a car crash in 1949 and had to take time off golf, Hogan used Jo. squeeze a rubber ball and afterwards attributed the fantastic strength in his hands, to this exercise. —(P.A.)
