BASKETBALL REFEREE
Mr McDougall Appointed One of New Zealand's leading men’s basketbail referees, Mr M. A. McDougall, of Christchurch, has been chosen to officiate at the match between Queensland and a Canterbury invitation team at Cowles Stadium on August 4 The second referee for the game is expected to \e Mr C. McCall, an Australian touring with the Queensland team. This will help counteract any difference in interpretation of the rules between the two countries. Messrs R. McCormick (Canterbury) and E. Templeton (Mid-Canterbury) will be the referees for the curtainraiser between Canterbury B. holders of the South Island B grade championship, and a combined team from Mid and South Canterbury. It was incorrectly stated in a report yesterday that they would be controlling the international match. The secretary of the Canterbury Men's Basketball Association (Mr A. W. Barrett) said yesterday that the South Island colts' final would be held in Nelson on August 7. The teams to contest the final would probably be Nelson, Canterbury and Otago, although Southland could also be considered if it could overcome travel probr lems. The winner of the South Island final will play on its home court against, the winner of the North Island final, on August 21. Canterbury B’s entry for the annual Don Adams tournament at Ashburton on July 31 has been accepted. Other teams competing include South Canterbury and Mid-Canterbury.
