Need Seen For Reforms
The Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had become a “ratbag outfit” that was always squabbling within its own ranks, said the president (Mr A Bullivant) in a statement yesterday. The general meeting of the society held on Tuesday evening, he said, was an example of how bad this situation had become. The society was suffering from internal troubles that needed an immediate remedy. The meeting recommended to its council that the constitution be amended to include the president as a member of the council, but not necessarily as chairman of the council. Mr Bullivant said that at present the president was only an ex officio member of the council without voting powers. “This has made the president’s job very difficult in the past,” he said. “The change offers brighter hope for the future.”
