Sunday Tolls Opposed

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 14. The Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland wants no tolls on the Auckland Harbour bridge on Sundays. In a petition received by the Bridge Authority today; toe kirk session of the Gisborne congregation of the church asked the authority to abolish tolls on Sundays. The petition maintained that this would not lose money for the authority and quoted two verses from the Bible in support of the claim. “The abolition of paying toll on the Lord's Day will not involve the board in financial loss. A due regard for the honour of the Lord’s Day always secures temporal blessings. The Lord Himself has promised this and His word and promise have never failed (Isaiah 58, verses 13 and 14).

“The men employed would have a free day like other working men.” The authority will tell the church compliance with the request is outside the provisions of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Ari.*
