Mixed Bag?
Sir, —They have erected a new mail box in Hereford street. Now there are two, side by side, one labelled “Christchurch.” the other “Other Places.” The office girls carefully sort their mail into the appropriate box with an air of satisfied accomplishment. Along comes the little red van to empty the boxes. Out jumps the Post Office man, empties both boxes into one little bag, then drives away, also with an air of satisfied accomplishment. Could the Post Office supply the Post Office man with another bag. just to relieve my frustration? —Yours, etc..
OPTIMIST. July 9, 1965.
[The Chief Postmaster (Mr J. W. Lincoln) replies: “The drivers have separate bags supplied and are instructed to keep the mail segregated. The Post Office is keen to pro-
mote such segregation as it assists sorting in the mailroom when the thousands of letters are received from the various posting-boxes. 1 am concerned to learn of this failure and appreciate the correspondent’s bringing it to my attention. Steps are being taken to prevent a similar happening.”]
