NINE-RACE MEETINGS

Adoption By 50

Clubs

Nine-race meetings are to some degree achieving the purpose for which they were authorised under the Gaming Amendment Act, 1963, says the annual report of the Internal Affairs Department. During the year ended July 31, 1964, 25 racing and hunt clubs conducted nine-race programmes on 47 occasions, and 25 trotting clubs on 51 occasions. Nine-race meetings were authorised to help to solve the problems of over-sized fields, to provide more opportunities for maiden and improver trotters, and to reduce the number of division races and instances of ballot-ing-out which occur in the galloping code.
