DRILLING DELAY

(N.Z. Press Association)

NEW PLYMOUTH, June 21. Heavy mud prepared to control a gas strike in the New Plymouth exploratory oil well is being lost somewhere in the 12,158 ft deep hole, causing an indefinite delay in the resumption of drilling. Cement is being pumped into the hole in an endeavour to seal off the area through which the mud is being lost. The latest quantity of cement was introduced today, and once this has had time to harden tests will be made to see if normal mud circulation can be obtained.
