IMPORTS BY LICENCE

72 p.c. Under Schedule

Nearly three-quarters of New Zealand’s imports in the 10 months to April 30 this year came in under import licensing schedules, says the Department of Statistics. In all, imports amounting to £293.2m, including insurance and freight, came in during the period. Licensed imports were worth £211.3m, or 72 per cent of the total.

This compares with imports worth £287.1m in the 10 month to April last year, when 74.8 per cent came in under licence. The latest figures take in goods worth film imported during July to April under the 1963-64 licensing schedule, and £200.3m under the 1964-65 schedule.

A further £48.3m (16.5 per cent) were imported as goods exempt from licence, £24.9m (8.5 per cent) as Government imports and £B.Bm (3 per cent) under no-remittance schemes.

In the 10 months to April last year 15.4 per cent were imported as goods exempt from licence, 7.7 per cent as Government imports and 2.1 per cent under no-remittance schemes.
