Parliament’s Diary

The first two measures of the session were passed through all remaining stages by Parliament. They were the Cook Islands Amendment Bill and the Cook Islands Constitution Bill. The Electoral Amendment Bill (No. 2), a private measure, was introduced and read a first time. The Address-in-Reply debate was continued. Thirty-five members had spoken so far and the debate should be completed comfortably by Wednesday, in time for the presentation of the Budget on Thursday night. Yesterday's speakers were:— Government: Messrs A. McCready (Otaki), H. E. L. Pickering (Rangiora), G. F. Sim ’(Piako), G. A. Walsh (Tauranga) and W. H. Brown (Palmerston North). Opposition: Messrs H. G. R. Mason (New Lynn), P. T. Watene (Eastern Maori), M. A. Connelly (Riccarton), P. A. Amos (Manurewa), B. P. Macdonell (Dunedin Central).
