China
Sir.—Mr J. J. Saunders states that we have nothing to fear from the Chinese for 15 years or so. Recently there was an Afro-Asian conference at Bandung where the nations present pledged themselves to observe five points, one of which was that there was to be no interference in another country’s affairs. China signed this document, and she will never depart from it unless she
is attacked. For several years the American navy has blockaded the coast of China and occupied islands in the territorial limits. China has put up with this unfriendly treatment. China has been most circumspect so far about Vietnam in spite of charges of aggression. Her patience will not last indefinitely. The ridiculous non-recognition by the West of China is silly. The remarks about the split between the Soviet and Chinese parties show how little understanding there is on the true nature of Marxism, which is a constantly changing thing for the better. —Yours, etc., P.J.A.
