Otira Gorge Road

Sir, —In your article on Tuesday you quoted Mr D. B. Dallas as saying that there is a drop of 3000 ft at Reid’s falls. This seems to be highly exaggerated. I would say that the road is in better condition now than it has been for a number of years. It is a credit to the men who are maintaining it with the limited machines they have at their disposal. As I use this road at least twice weekly, this is from my own experience. I think Mr Dallas should try to help the Coast instead of trying to stop traffic coming over.— Vniirs pin NOT TAR-SEAL DRIVER June 4, 1965. [The figure should have been 300 ft; the misprint was corrected for the later editions. Ed., “The Press.”]
