Age Benefit
Sir, —Today (Thursday) my wife and I collected our May pension. In another week we will collect this month’s. This will give us nearly £BO cash on hand. Thus we will be able to bank £5O. Earlier on in the year I paid insurances, interest, and rates amounting in all to £65. We have both had a few days in Dunedin and also in Greymouth, no board to pay but rail fares and other expenses incidental to a holiday. We have no other income and no money has been withdrawn from the bank. Where some of your correspondents get the idea from that a lot of pensioners have to depend on charity to live I do not know. In my opinion we pensioners have never before been as well off as we are under this so-called Tory Government.—Yours. WELL SATISFIED. June 3, 1965.
