Auckland Wool Sale Report

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, May 27.

Second shear wool dominated the offering of 30,274 bales submitted to auction at the ninth Auckland wool sale yesterday, according to the official report.

Sixty per cent of the total offering was early shorn and second-shear ewe and wether wool, 15 per cent second-shear hogget wool together with small quantities of full length fleece, late shorn lambs' wool and the usual oddments. The standard of the offering was about average for a May sale. Delayed shearing in the spring, due to adverse weather, was responsible for a Shortness in staple of the autumn shorn second-shear now presented. There was yellow discoloration in the early shorn and two-tooth lines following the flush of feed and longer grass over the last few months. Second-shear lambs offered were barely long enough to command the normal premium.

The small quantity of full length fleece available was of average to inferior style. Competition was steady throughout the day from Continental and American buyers.

There was little in the offering to interest Bradford. Compared with last week’s sale at Napier second-shear

prices declined 2j per cent with the exception of good length lots for which prices were in buyers' favour only. Prices for fleece wool were up to 2i per cent cheaper and about firm for lambs’ wool. Not all growers were prepared to meet this change in values and passings up to 12 1 per cent were recorded.
