LEAGUE’S POLICY

Starting On 3rd Stage (N.Z. Press Association} AUCKLAND, April 30. New Zealand has a good chance of retaining the Courtney Goodwill Trophy, the symbol of world supremacy among Rugby League nations, said the president. Dr. L. J. Cooney, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand League tonight. The trophy was won by New Zealand on the basis of test results between April, 1960, and March, 1965. and will be awarded again in five years to the country having the best international record between now and 1970.

Mr J. E. Knowling, secretary and treasurer, said League had completed the second stage of an earlier council policy. “The first stage was achieved when we discharged our debt incurred by the cancellation of the 1939 Kiwi tour of England,” he said. “The League has built up its assets since the success ful tour of England and France in 1947-48 and is now starting on the third policy stage of developing grounds and helping to cater for players and spectators. “Over the years we have developed from having nothing and we have advanced more than £41,000 to the provincial leagues.” Officers elected were: patron, the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergussoni: president. Dr. L. J Cooney: vice-presidents, Messrs H. I Stonex (Auckland), D. C. Wilson (Canterbury), R. Lee (West Coast), A. C. Harlock (Waikato), H. de Lisle (Bay of Plenty), K. H. English (Wellington), G. Ward (Northland), N. de Malmanche (Manawatu), M. Rate. M.P. (Maori Board of Control); council, Messrs G. G. Plant (Auckland), W. Telford (West Coast), T. Wellsmore (Canterbury), W. O'Callaghan (Waikato). E. Asher (Maori Biard of Control), R. G. Megregor (minor leagues).

Sedgemere School.— The following have been elected to the Sedgemere School Committee: Messrs F. J. Lambie, R. A. Pullan, M. H. Pohio, G. S. Smith, M. M. Howson.
