AVONSIDE’S WIN UNEXPECTED

Avonside owed its surprise win to M. J. Flewellen, who scored wins over F. Jarman and B. T. Edwards, and to the club’s polished doubles play. Celtic’s P. J. Ives put up stern resistance, winning his three singles matches. In another close contest, Linwood beat Wallabies Green, 14-13, with matches equal at 6-all.

N. C. Orr (Linwood) gave his best display this season to win his three singles matches, including victories over the Canterbury-ranked players, R. G. Hart and J. Lelliott.
