£l2B Raised For Churchill Fund
The sum of £l2B 18s had been raised for the Winston Churchill Memorial Fund by members of the Canterbury branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society, said the president (Mr L. C. C. Spooner) at the society's annual meeting. Thirty new members had been elected during the year, and membership stood at 275. Mr Spooner said in his annual report. The society was in a very strong position financially. The women’s group of the society, under the chairmanship of Mrs J. Arthur, had had a successful and interesting year. Attendances had increased. Profits made from various projects had been used for charitable purposes. An illustrated travel talk on a journey through Jugoslavia and other countries was given by Mrs K. F. Humphreys. The following officers were elected: president. Mr L. C. C. Spooner: vice-presidents, Mesdames J. H. Powell, B. E. Goulden, Messrs C. L. Bacon. J. R. Masters; secretarytreasurer. Mr R. C. Halliday council, Messrs K. H. Bartlett, R. A. Morgan. J. N. Westgarth, A. W. Morland, D. E. Ames, M. L. Bernacchi, H. P. E. Lehner, F. S. Sullivan, Mesdames J. Arthur, G. D. Hattaway, H. E. Hyde, and M. E. James.
