ROYAL VISIT TO BERLIN
MiG Flights Feared
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, April 12.
British newspapers said today that MiG fighters could menace the Queen when she flew to Berlin during her visit to Germany next month. “An East German Government official refused to give a definite assurance that they would refrain from troublemaking during the seven-hour visit to Berlin on May 27,” said the “Daily Mail.” Last week Soviet MiG fighters carried out mock raids over West Berlin while the West German Parliament was meeting in the city. Asked if Communist planes would fly in the air corridors or over the city when the Queen was there, the vicepresident of the Communist National Front, Horst Brasch, said: “That depends on the political situation at the time,” the newspaper reported. The “Daily Sketch” in a report headed “Queen fo Fly to Berlin by ‘Buzz Alley’,” said that there were suggestions that the Queen’s Berlin trip should be called off. The programme was confirmed today.
