37 Separate Tornadoes

Police and troops stood guard overnight against looters in six American midwest states devastated by tornadoes which killed at least 246.
About 2500 people have been injured in the six states —lndiana, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and lowa. Rescue workers dug all day through piles erf rubble that once were homes and shops.. The United States Weather Bureau said 37 separate tornadoes had struck over an area almost 500 miles long. In some places over Indiana the “twisters” were a mile wide.
Police in Indiana described the disaster as the worst in the state’s history.
