New Zealand is among the countries invited. The Indian official was in Paris for a congress of the International Hockey Federation.
Mr Sait said: “Things are not finalised yet, but the tournament wil probably be in January. We cannot have it earlier because most national federations said they have already made their financial arrangements for this year.” He will now continue negotiations for the tournament by letter.
Countries likely to take part in the tournament are:— India, Britain, Holland, Spain, Belgium, West Germany, the United Arab Republic, New Zealand, Pakistan and Japan.
The International Federation congress decided to change the name of the organisation from the International Field Hockey Federation to the International Hockey Federation.
