CATTLE SALE
5405gns For 39 Head Thirty-nine Friesian bulls and female cattle brought 5405gns at the sale of the Lesdale cattle of M. B. Leslie and the Tahora cattle of J. J. and J. A. Geddes at Prebbleton.
The sale attracted a gallery of buyers from all parts of the South Island and the North Island was also represented. At least three cattle were purchased for the North Island. The 16 bulls in the entry sold from 35gns to 300gns, averaging 1331gns each.
M. B. Leslie’s Lesdale Brabazon L. Hero, born in September, 1963, topped the male section of the sale at 300gns, which was paid by the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association as agents. It was out of Lesdale T.B. Hazel, which was reserve champion and winner of the market milk class at the last Christchurch show.
Mr Leslie also sold a five-year-old bull to E. G. Robertson, of Sprlngston, for 270gns and another born in May, 1961, to W. Brownlee (Hastings) for the same money. A bull calf born in January brought the good price of 200gns in a sale to the Otago Farmers for E. J. P. Bryant (Outram).
J. J. and J. A. Geddes sold five bulls from 55gns to 185gns and averaged 84gns. All of the females were sold on account of M. B. Leslie. Twenty-three made from 60 to 270gns and averaged 142gns. Lesdale Lucky Ingrid, born in March, 1962. earned the top money of 270gns. It was bought by Wright Stephenson and Company, Christchurch. Another female born in June, 1962, was sold to T. H. and B. M. Jones (Sprlngston) for 260gns. It was evident during the sale that buyers were looking for the top quality entries with high production. The sale was conducted by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association, Ltd., in association with the Farmers' Stud Stock Company, Ltd., and associate co-operatives and Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd.
This sale and two others of Friesians held in or near Christchurch this week have earned more than £19,000.
