CONTEST FOR JOCKEYS

Bren Langford Memorial (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. The Northern Hurdles Horsemen’s Association will conduct an annual competition among hurdles and steeplechase jockeys for a trophy to be known as the Bren Langford Memorial. Langford died last year from injuries suffered in a race fall. He was one of the most successful and popular riders over hurdles and steeples in New Zealand. The competition, which will be decided on a points basis, will be restricted to jockeys who have not ridden more than five winners in hurdles races or steeplechases. The association feels that by limiting the competition to riders who have not ridden more than five winners, many young riders having their first few starts over fences will have greater incentive.

Starting on Easter Saturday, the contest will end on August 31. Four points will be awarded for a winning ride, two for a second, and one for third. The competition will be conducted throughout New Zealand.
