2 Hat-Tricks, 2 Centuries
An outright win over Southbridge on Saturday gave Weedons a one-point lead in the Ellesmere cricket competition. Leeston, the leader before Saturday’s games, could only manage a draw with Irwell. Irwell and Weedons meet in the next round. Two centuries were scored during the day. M. Chamberlain (Leeston) hit 101 and L. Wason (Dunsandel) 103. There were also two hat-tricks, by A. Brown (Weedons) and M. Murray (Lincoln). Results were:— Weedons 86 for seven declared (T. Watson 36 not out, G. Barclay 21; A. Brown four for 39, W. Heslop three for 16) and 92 for two (J. Meyer 59) beat Southbridge 41 (A. Brown 22; J. Meyer five for 11, C. Chadderton four for 22) and 132 (L. Mangus 56, H. Patterson 24, N. Marson 21; J. Meyer four for 35, C. Chadderton three for 19) by eight wickets. Leeston 242 for seven (M. Chamberlain 101, J. Sheehan 28 not out, P. Chamberlain 25, B. Free 21, B. Baynes 24 not out; Graham Rennie three for 37) drew with Irwell 226 for three (J. Lay 88, L. Miller 52, M. Dick 45 not out). Dunsandel 236 for five declared (L. Wason 103, M. Murray 36 not out, A. Brown 32) drew with Lincoln 134 for eight (N. Wallis 30, A. Campbell 35 not out, R. Kerr 25; M. Frampton two for 32, M. Murray five for 16).
