DESIGN OF CHURCHES
Architect’s Plea A plea for churches to make more use of professional help when building was made by an Auckland architect during the conference of the Chrtches of Christ. Speaking on the development of church sites. Mr R. I. Taylor said churches allowed financial pressures to limit their use of architects and building consultants. The result was often low building standards. Experts must be used wherever possible, he said. Far more thought he said, should be given to the building of chapels, so that they do not become free standing units which were not integrated with the whole church plan. The church extension committee is investigating the possibility of setting up an architectural sub-committee to give advice on the design of church buildings.
