Commission To Seek Causes

The King of Malaysia has appointed a five-man commission of inquiry into the recent racial disturbances in Singapore. The commission is headed by Mr Justice Crua, of Singapore.
Its members are:—Dato Justice Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohamed Zain, of Malaya; Mr A. P. Rajah, a former Singapore assemblyman; Dr. Wang Gung Wu, professor of history, University of Malaya; and Tuan Haji Bin Haji Mahmud, president of the Sahriah Court in Singapore. The commission will report on the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the disturbances in Singapore in late July and early September. A total of 37 people died and more than 500 were injured in the violence between Malays and Chinese. In the public interest, the inquiry would be closed to the public, a Gazette notice said.
