Obituary MR R. LeC. LATTER
Mr Robert Le Clerc Latter, a member of the Amuri County Council for 24 years, died recently in Christchurch. He was 82. Mr Latter, who was the eldest son of Mr Robert Latter of Barrys Bay, Banks Peninsula, was educated at Akaroa and Christ’s College. He played in the Ist XV and was always keenly interested in football, being patron of the Waiau Club for many years.
On leaving school Mr Latter worked on Morton Mains, Kaikoura, then on Green Hills Station which at , that time extended from the Conway to the Kahautara rivers. He later went into partnership with Mr Robert Hugonin and bought Waipapa Station at Clarence Bridge. A member of the Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, Mr Latter served in Egypt from 1915 to 1917. He was severely wounded at Gaza and was returned to New Zealand. After a year in hospital he bought Achray in Rotherham, and subsequently bought other land in the Amuri county and farmed there until he returned to live at Cloudy Range until his retirement in 1952. He leased this propertv from the Crown from 1905 until 1957.
Mr Latter was a member of the Amuri and Canterburv Agricultural and Pastoral Association and an honorary life member of the Canterbury Club. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. MR E. J. HARVEY (N.Z. Press Association) BLENHEIM, Oct. 2. The death occurred in Blenheim today of Mr E. J. Harvey. He was 84. A Boer War veteran, and an active worker for the greater part of his lifetime in the interests of returned servicemen, Mr Harvey was the holder of the South African Veterans’ Association gold badge and the Returned Services Association’s gold star. Mr Harvey retired only a few years ago from the Patriotic Fund Board on which he had been Marlborough representative for many years.
