Council Not In Favour Of Service Station

Sitting as a special committee under section 35 of the Town and Country Planning Act, the Riccarton Borough Council last evening heard five objections to a proposal for the establishment of a service station and garage on the corner of Riccarton road and Harakeke street.

Rutledge) said that his committee had bought from the Army a second-hand building which the committee wished to have erected on R.S.A. land at the rear of its existing clubrooms. The objectors—Mr A. G. Long, Mrs R. A. Hayman. Miss L. B. Courtis, and Mr and Mrs R. O. Berryman—all expressed concern that the building would be too near their properties. They objected on the grounds that the proposed building would not conform to the borough’s building requirements, and that there would be considerable noise’.'
