‘ENOSIS SOON’

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NICOSIA, Aug. 27. Archbishop Makarios expressed the hope today that enosis—the union of Cyprus with Greece—may be achieved quickly and that the new Greek Ambassador to the island, Mr Menelaos Alexandrakis, would be the last envoy of his country to Nicosia.

Archbishop Makarios, speaking at a ceremony for the presentation of Mr Alexandrakis’s credentials, told him: “You are not the ambassador of a foreign state but the representative of the mother country.” Mr Alexandrakis said he was proud to be serving “among our heroic Cyprus brothers.”

He added: “1 shall work with all my strength for the quick realisation of the agelong aspirations of the people of the island.”
