Marine research workers have trained a wild porpoise, turned it loose in the ocean and called it back with an amplified electronic device carried in a small boat, according to an A.A.P.-Reuter cable from Honolulu.
Yesterday the porpoise responded to calls several times and then followed the boat back to pens. The research workers
claim a breakthrough in underwater research. Dr. K. Norris, of the Oceanic Foundation, said the feat was very significant. “I can’t begin to tell you what this means. ... With an animal like this which will roam the Pacific and then return to us, the possibilities are unlimited.”
