Dolphin Departs...
One of the two dolphins placed in the Milford swimming pool escaped at 9.30 a.m. yesterday through the sluice in the side of the pool. The sluice gate was opened soon after 9 a.m. to change the water in the pool which had become dirty over the week-end. The iron grill over the sluice gate had rotted away and the smaller dolphin escaped to sea, says a Press Association message from Auckland. A new iron grill has been placed in position.
“We are naturally disappointed, and will try to get another dolphin to replace our loss within a
month,” said Mrs J. Shannon, who plans to make the pool into an aquarium. The other dolphin has been swimming quietly around the pool since yesterday morning, but refuses to take fish offered. In the next week, Mrs Shannon will try to tame the dolphin, get it to take food and get it used to her. "When a dolphin is first caught it is very shy and will not take food at once,” she said. “After the dolphin has become tame I will start training, and this will be the hard part,” she said.
